Letters & Questionnaires from College Football Programs.

Tags: , , , , ,             First let me explain what a letter or a questionnaire is. It is a document sent by a college football programs to potential college football players. It is usually sent out to high school football players during their junior year. This questionnaire does not mean you are being scouted. It can serve as a prerequisite for being scouted, if you fill it out and your information is what the coaches are looking for they may come and scout one of your games.

“It is what it is.” It is a questionnaire, not a scholarship, not a guarantee. I know high school football players that were sent questionnaires and they never met or spoke to any college football coaches after that. Now the important thing here; is never get discouraged. I’ll discuss this later on in this blog don’t be satisfied with little things. I’ll give you a good example. I know someone who was in a bad car accident and couldn’t play his freshman year of high school football. That would have been his first time playing football. The doctors told him he would never be able to run. When we talked about it he told me for about 6 months he believed the doctor and when I walked with him I could hear the cartilage in both of his knees grinding and cracking. Can you believe that he was able to play football his sophomore year of high school. He signed a full scholarship to a D1 school and has recently graduated with a degree.

It is kind of hard not to be optimistic. When I received my first letter I felt important. “Wow this team took time to write me a letter or send me a questionnaire.” Reality set in after I completed my freshman year of college. At that point it became like “Oh you guys have a box of pre written questionnaires to mail out to those high school football players that you hear about.”When high school football players tell me they have gotten letters, I tell them keep playing hard. “I want you to keep playing hard as if you haven’t received any letters or questionnaires.” The reason for this is because some people tend to settle for things in life. I know some high school players who think a questionnaire is such a big deal. It doesn’t become a big deal to you actually have a scout/coach from that university come to your school and meet with you. That’s when it starts becoming a big deal.

When I was a junior I got tons of questionnaires. I kind of shrugged them off I may have sent in just 1. I also had no guidance as far as dealing with this information. I was the first to go to college on a full athletic scholarship in my family. Because of that I didn’t have anybody that could advise me or tell me about their experience. I will truthfully tell my readers, That this is where the idea for Rate My College Football Experience comes from. I know I’m not the only person to be the first of their family to be offered a full athletic scholarship, so I know people can relate to this situation. There will be people reading this blog that have gone thru that scenario and there will be high school football players who will soon be dealing with this scenario. Hence the creation of this website and blog.

There are always people saying “If I knew then what I know now.” That is something that I am saying more and more now. “If I could play high school football again.” Or “If I was as strong as I am now during my college football career…” That’s why you have to make the best out of everything. The good thing is I am still young so I do have a chance to tryout and attempt to play pro-football.

Anyhow by no means am I telling you not to celebrate when you receive your first questionnaire or letter from a college. By all means be proud of it, and be proud of yourself and those who helped you come to this point in your life. All I’m saying is just don’t settle for that. There is a question on our Weekly Advice page about receiving letters from D2-D3 schools, then finally receiving a letter from a D1 school. That’s what my point is don’t be satisfied with your first letter keep playing hard like you haven’t received anything.
