College Football Recruiting
Ok big deal National Signing Day was over a month ago. A high number of high school seniors are still looking for schools to go play football at. A good amount of high school players are under the impression that if they are “good football players” the coaches will find them. Then there is the high school player that feels their school is too small for coaches to scout them. I totally disagree with the later being that I played at a small high school and finished my senior season at 1-9, and STILL GOT A FULL College Football SCHOLARSHIP.
Getting found by college football coaches
There is a lot that goes into the college football recruiting process. As you may or may not already know Football Coaches network or communicate with one another on consistent basis. The shortest conversation could have a scout at your next game. You could have a College Football scout that went to a high school to scout a player and ask the player were there any other players that he knows or played against that are worth taking a look at?
Becareful what you say
It happens I had coaches ask me that and even until this day I get calls from different coaches telling me they heard that I am a good offensive lineman bla bla bla. It is that simple. Thats why I tell people all the time be careful what you say and who you speak about because you never know who you are talking to. You could be talking to a scout or a coaches relative. I learned my lesson when I did a newspaper interview over the phone. Keep in mind I had never done this before but we were playing against Uconn, their season opener and highly anticipated. I received a call with no warning and I just thought it was someone who wanted to know how I felt about the game. Next thing you know I’m all over the Hartford Courant News Paper being quoted. At the same time though I wasn’t disrespectful but a lot of people considered what I had said to be bulletin board material.
Size of Schools
Believe it or not the only impact the size of your school has will usually result in the type of competition your division has. In Connecticut we go by classes Class L Class LL etc. The higher the class the bigger the school, and the bigger the football program. Nothing major, nothing to discourage you. Its not the size of your school that the College Football Coaching staff is watching while they evaluate your game film. They are evaluating your game film by your performance from start until finish. Now keep in mind if you are at a bigger high school you will be more likely competing with your own teammates for a scouts attention. This can be both good or bad. This can be good because this will help other players on your team get recognized by scouts. But it can also be bad when it creates a selfishness amongst players. I know of some high school players who have been quoted saying “I use to look into the stands for the guy with the clipboard and College Football Team on his hat.” This is not a great thing to do, the idea is let the scout look for you and not to look for the scout.
College Football Coaches haven’t found you?
If you haven’t been scouted or recruited don’t get discouraged. In fact get motivated you have work to do. Things you will need:
Game film ready to be mailed out upon request *Not just a highlight tape
College Football Coaches contact information: CFCD
Last but not least prove yourself on your tape. Make sure it is the best you can do
Network
Call coaches, introduce yourself RMCFE has helped thousands and will continue to do so. We have a partnership with the only College Football Coaches Directory on the net. They are located at www.collegefdirectory.com They a free list of College Football Coaches Contact information -D1, D2 and D3. Take advantage of every opportunity. Like I said earlier coaches talk with each other so one school may not have the funding or room on their rosters and they may tell a coach at another school about you.
Follow Through
A lot of people don’t follow through with things in life. An increasingly number of players have been using our scholarship services on our scholarship page: www.rmcfe.com/scholarship.html
But they aren’t following up or following the instructions as far as checking their email to see what scholarships are becoming available. Millions of dollars go unused every year in scholarships. Do you know what that means for your chances of getting a scholarship to college? Your changes are ridiculously high. So take advantage of every opportunity. Worst case scenario you apply for a scholarship and get one then a College Football Coach offers you a scholarship, that is great no problem.
In Closing
In closing take advantage of every opportunity that you are provided. That is why RMCFE is in existence to teach players and parents about the opportunities that are available that many people don’t know about. Network Network Network you never know the affect that networking will have on your future. I have teammates that have gotten professional tryouts because they met someone that knew someone that knew someone. Well until next time…
