Get Recruited by College Football Coaches

For those of you who don’t know me my name is Mel Lewis CEO of RMCFE. I played Division 1aa football for the University of Rhode Island I started all 4 years, every game, played on tv against Uconn, Umass, James Madison, Richmond just to name a few teams. I’ve had my share of College football competition. What I have been doing with RMCFE is providing a platform for communication from high school and college players to me to share opinions get advice etc.

One thing I know is that many high school football players don’t know what it takes to be recruited. They think playing Varsity as a sophmore is what it takes, or winning all conference or county or state or whatever. It takes a “high motor” thats what Coach Cersosimo told me. Not the Coach Cersosimo who is the recruiting coordinator and receivers coach at Uconn, but his father who is my boss at Conard High School.

How to Get Recruited

Set yourself apart from every other high school football player. Stand out but be consistent and be humble. If your good you don’t have to say your good you just have to prove it. I got tired of seeing new players come in while I was in college, they were running backs or quarter backs who claimed to be so good but couldn’t get a daggon snap from the center or a pitch from the qb. Set yourself apart off the field. In the weight room and in the classroom. Don’t be a class clown or atleast if you are going to be a class clown do so with a high GPA or SAT scores. Set yourself apart in the weight room challenge yourself do an extra rep or an extra set don’t just settle for the number of reps on your chart.

Contact a Recruiting Coordinator

The biggest thing I do push players to do is take initiative. Take initiative and call a coach. I also created the college football coaches directory -College Football Recruiting Coordinators. Coaches love when players go out of their way to contact them. Somewhere in this blog is an entry I wrote clearly outlining the rules and regulations for high school players to contact coaches. Yes there is specific dates and times when a coach can contact you. However I’m 99% sure that you can call a coach at your own expense at anytime. I called my recruiting coach when I was in high school. Coaches also welcome emails, now I can’t guarantee that they will respond because I have never done so.

In closing I want to say it feels good to be back and I apologize for my absence but I took a coaching position at my old high school and I’m on scholarship once again to get my Master’s Degree. I hope you all understand…
