College Football Recruiting Process

!!!!!!!!ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYERS- If you have a youtube highlight or video clip please email the link to staff@rmcfe.com so we can feature it on our newest page: High School Football Recruit Highlights. This is 100% Free and will definitely help you get exposure from hundreds of college football recruiting coordinators!!!

The first thing I want to do is discuss the college football recruiting process in depth! I will even incorporate some of my own personal beliefs and experiences about the college football recruiting process. At this point this is the biggest time in most of your lives. I realize that some of you who support RMCFE are currently in the process of being recruited or have aspirations to be recruiting and share the ultimate goal of playing college football.

Many people approach me with an increasing concern I want to Play D1 football. I don't have an issue with that concern but the issue I do have is when a player wants to play for the wrong reasons. There are things that need to be taken into consideration when you want to play "D1 or Division 1 football" which is the highest level of college football. Some things to take into consideration are listed below:

  • Are you being recruited by D1 Schools?
  • Can you compete at the D1 level?
  • Do you plan on walking onto a D1 school or earning a scholarship?
  • Why do you want to play College Football?

Some people want to play D1 football because of all the hype and popularity that comes with it. But if you aren't an impact player and you are just another player on their roster are you really contributing to team? I'll give an example: I was working as a subsititute teacher in 6th grade in CT. This particular school got a lot of support from Uconn or the University of Connecticut. Anyhow one of their football players came in bragging and boasting to my 6th graders, I play for Uconn. I actually know a few of the players I played against at Uconn in 2006 (Uconn vs. URI) and I didn't recognize this player at all. So I said what year are you he said senior and I said what number are you? He told me and I said well I played against Uconn in 06 and I don't remember going against you...He said oh I don't play much I'm a back up player. So there is my point don't just brag and boast about playing Division 1 college football but your not an impact player. It doesn't look to good and if it were me I wouldn't be satisfied just being a back up player.

With that being said the first thing you need to ask yourself is "Can you be an impact player in a Division 1 program?" That includes Division 1aa football as well. Don't believe me check the stats with these Division 1aa teams beating Division 1a teams. For example one of my favorites is Appalachian State beats Michigan. North Dakota Stave beats Minnesota and last but not least Delaware Beating Navy. By the way I played against Delaware Blue Hens and man they have some hecklers in there crowds. Also my offensive line coach is now the offensive line coach at Navy, Ashley Ingram.

    College Football Recruiting is Competitive

Football on any level is competitive, but Division 1a will be more competitive because their is an increase in roster size and scholarship availability. Generally coaches can create competitions between other players they are recruiting by persuading them to give a verbal commitment asap or run the risk of missing out on a scholarship. Competition can also occur between different Universities and Colleges. For example University of Connecticut the Co-Big East Champs of 2007 and Rutgers University. These two schools are constantly competing for recruiting football players out of New Jersey. I myself had a bunch of players on my team from New Jersey, if you don't know New Jersey has some great athletes. Another aspect of the competitiveness can be seen when you hear these recruiting scandals about teams violating NCAA rules with recruiting visits and players doing things that are deemed inappropriate.

    Football Recruiting Scholarships

Let me tell you it is a lot easier to make your commitment when there is money involved. If school A is offering you a partial scholarship and school B is offering you a full scholarship, your most likely commiting to school B. I was fortunate enough to have all full scholarship offers and that makes it a little harder. So I based my decision off of loyalty, who call me plenty of times during the recruiting contact period. Who came to my school, who came to my house. The coach that recruited me was Vinny Marino who is now an offensive coordinator at Columbia. The best advice I want to give to players who aren't being offered a full scholarship is to market yourself. If you haven't sent in film or Complete Football Questionaires or even Contact Football Coaches, then you need to start immediately. Get your name out there. If you have a youtube video and you want it featured on RMCFE please email the link and a description to Mel@rmcfe.com and I will personally review it and have it added to our site to increase your marketing effectiveness. One last thing I will say if you have gotten the offers that you want you need to look into prep school or a lower division where you can prove your self and send in some more game film to coaches in hopes of catching the recruiting coordinators attention!
